The police duty belt contains the equipment that a police or security officer must carry with them at all times. These items vary by municipality, but generally include handcuffs, a police flashlight, radio, a baton, a handgun and ammunition and pepper spray, mace or other chemical spray. Each of the items carried on the police officer’s duty belt is a high performance, heavy duty piece of potentially lifesaving equipment.

DEMANDING JOB, HIGH PERFORMANCE EQUIPMENT

The police officer is in a high stress job that can become dangerous at a moments notice. When we think of the needs of a police officer, we often think of the defensive weapons they carry, such as a handgun or a baton. While these items do make up an integral part of the high performance duty belt, they are certainly not the only part.

It is important then that the officer have the highest quality, reliable equipment. By carrying a tactical flashlight in the duty belt, as well as extra batteries and a replacement bulb, the officer can be secure in knowing that the flashlight that he has will work when the need arises. In fact, most police officer’s carry more than one flashlight, often one battery operated and one rechargeable police flashlight.

THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT

The equipment that a police officer carries on his duty belt can save his life. With few exceptions, the gear that is carried is decided by the municipality where the officer is employed. Most duty belts will consist of a handgun and holster, additional ammunition, a tactical flashlight, a radio and holster, handcuffs, and a baton. In addition, some municipalities carry chemical sprays, such as pepper spray or mace, and some carry battery powered stunning devices.

Most officers will also carry their own small notebooks and ink pen, and may also carry a cell phone. The decision on what an officer carries with him in the field must balance the needs of keeping the officer safe and being realistic in what the officer can actually carry. It is always a judgment call when deciding what should be carried and what should be left off the belt.

The handgun and holster, radio, and tactical flashlight are not lightweight items, but heavy duty, high performance equipment. While it is always advisable to be over prepared for any situation, particularly in a high pressure situation such as law enforcement, it is not always possible. A police duty belt that weighs so much that it fatigues the police officer, shifts around when he runs after a suspect, or does not allow free movement is more of a hinderer than a help.

All of the equipment that is carried by the police officer on his duty belt must be evenly distributed across the belt so that it is less likely to shift or cause back strain. The officer becomes accustomed to the location of each of the tools located on his belt and they become an extension of his hands. The duty belt is an important and lifesaving piece of equipment, possibly the most important part of the police officer’s uniform.

Winter hiking can be a tranquil even surreal experience when done properly. The peace of walking through cold and wintry scenes captured in the outdoors is considered by many to be a great way to spend a day. Additional precautions are needed when hiking in the winter, however, as winter weather can create a number of issues not typically a problem in the summer. It is important to protect yourself from both colder temperatures and potential winter hazards this time of year. Making sure that you have the right equipment for your hike and taking extra time planning so that you can avoid many potentially dangerous situations are important to winter hiking safety.

Essential Equipment

Proper equipment is a winter hiking essential. Your biggest priorities are going to be making sure that you have light and warmth when you need it, as well as food and water to keep you from becoming dehydrated or hungry. A basic multipurpose tool or a pocket knife is important for any hiking situation. A small first aid kit is too. LED flashlights are the smartest choice for a light source. They use very little energy (batteries) and therefore will last much longer than a standard light. Pack both thermal blankets and chemical heat packs to ensure that you and your companions will be able to stay warm enough if caught out in unexpected bad weather. If you’ll be camping during your hike, invest in a sleeping bag that’s designed to keep you warm in low temperatures. Make sure that you pack all of the necessary equipment that you would bring in warmer weather, and be sure that you put an extra emphasis on safety and first aid.

Careful Planning

When you’re planning your hiking trip, take extra time to plan out your route. Do your research and see if you can find out about any safety advisories in the area where you want to hike, and adjust your equipment list as needed to accommodate for any special circumstances that you might encounter based on these warnings. If you’re planning a multi-day hiking trip, you might want to have an LED flashlight that has a lantern function as well so that you can illuminate larger areas with it. Begin watching weather reports several days in advance of when your trip is planned for so that you can make any necessary adjustments to your plans. Once your plan is set, make sure you notify two to three people of your expected route and plans for return so they can alert the proper authorities if you do not return as scheduled.

Being Mindful of Temperature

Temperatures often drop quickly during the winter, and it can be very easy to underestimate the effects of these temperature shifts. You must also be mindful of the amount of sweat that your body can produce even in cold weather, as it can not only lead to you having wet clothes and skin in cold weather but you can also be in danger of dehydration. Quickly dropping temperatures can increase your likelihood of becoming sick and can also put you at risk for hypothermia. Because of this, in addition to any blankets or heat packs that you bring, it’s important that you dress appropriately for the projected temperatures on the day or days that you’ll be hiking. Dress in layers and bring extra shirts, jackets, pants, or other clothing that can be added with relative ease if necessary.

Some recliners can be arranged theater style or connected all together. Many recliners come with cup holders that resemble an actual movie theater seat. When choosing a recliner, keep in mind how much it reclines. If the chair fully reclined makes viewing your television screen impossible, you may need to either redesign the room or rethink your furniture choices. If your home theater will be used by kids, you may want to consider bean bags and some other low cost seating. These items are easy to clean and can be moved around depending on the size and number of kids watching television.

Portland, Oregon is a city located in the Northwestern of the United States. With Rivers such as Willamette, and Columbia Rivers. Portland is regarded as the greenest city in United States. Portland is noted for Microbreweries and Coffee shops. Also, home of the Portland Trailblazers. But did you know that Portland have a large amount of restaurants. Going to several restaurants in North East Portland made me aware of a food called “Cabbage Rolls”. As a young man, I used to try food from different cultures.

My way of learning different cooking methods. I fell in love with “Cabbage Rolls”. I tried different ways of mixing ingredients, but coming from a African American descent I tried to put my own stamp on the recipe. Coming from a growing restaurant scene, and loving vegetarian food. It’s no secrete that some “Oregonian” love to cook. Last but not least, I love to share my recipe. After all, food is suppose to be shared with others.

My “Soul Cabbage Rolls” and Preparation instructions.

1 or 2 lbs of Ground Beef ” Or to your liking”

1 box of Wild Rice “Cook rice before stuffing and set aside to cool ”

1/2 cup of Italian bread crumbs (optional)

2 cloves of garlic (chopped or crushed)

1/4 tsp of onion powder

1/3 tsp of garlic powder

1/4 tsp of Paprika

1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper

2 Eggs

1 1/2 teaspoon of salt

1 large Red or White peeled onion

1 Large Green Cabbage

1or 2 green bell peppers “Chopped in small pieces”

Olive oil or Vegetable

2 1/2 cups of Mexican Tomato Sauce

Combine All ingredients other than Cabbage.

Please Remove Core of the Cabbage. I usually cut a square around the core and puncher the core out. Be careful with the sharp carving knife.

Fill a very large stockpot with salted water and boil on low. Place the cabbage without core inside the pot.

Simmer for a few minutes and start removing the outer leaves from the cabbage. The leaves should fall off like pealing a orange or apple. The leaves will start to get soft. Cook the cabbage in the least amount of time possible but long enough to make the leaves tender.

Remove all the outer leaves until finished. Make sure all leaves are steamed and removed than prepare for the filling.

Some of the leaves will be to small for wrapping, but keep them for filling bottom of pan or top.

Stuff each leaf with filling. Open the leaf up and fill. After stuffing, Make sure the stuffing is covered with cabbage and place the open part face down on the pan. Much like a bundle.

Make sure the pan has Vegetable Oil or Olive Oil at the bottom.

Also, the additional loose cabbage you can place on top of the cabbage rolls or on the bottom of the casserole pan. “Any pan that will Bake.”

Sprinkle with Season Salt without “MSN” and Pepper.

Some people fasten with toothpick but is not required.

Bake in Oven. Place cabbage rolls inside oven. Pour Mexican “Hot or Mild Sauce on top… or wait until Cabbage rolls are complete than pour sauce. You can also use foil during this process. Bake in the oven, 300 degrees F, or about 2 hours.

Don’t overcook the cabbage rolls. Test the rolls with a toothpick or knife… until the cabbage rolls are tender. You can also use BBQ sauce rather than tomato soup, tomato paste etc.

Why does your business need to be in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS)?

Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing both have the same goal, which is to help visitors find your website. Ten years ago there was probably nobody searching online for your product or service. Five years ago, there may have been a couple of dozen people looking for it in any given week or month. Today, in 2005, you can be sure that there are many people actively seeking your products or services each and every day through the search engines. Can they find you there?

According to a Fall 2004 report by http://www.comscore.com/ nearly 40% of all internet connections in the United States are now broadband, “always on”, high speed internet access. As this becomes the norm, there is also a steady merging or “convergence” going on between our computers, our cel phones, and even our television sets. Pretty soon, we’ll all have access to worldwide information in the palm of our hands at any given moment. Do you think that might affect how customers are going to look for you?

It’s never been more important to be listed in the Internet search engines and directories than it is right now. I see websites that have been around for years and never even been submitted to any search engines. (I’ve also seen sites get penalized by the search engines for improper or “over submission”, so don’t rush out and do it!).

Yet some of these same businesses will pour hundreds or thousands of dollars each month into local Yellow page advertising because they believe it to be the most effective form of advertising. Well, phone book use has been steadily declining over the past 10 years, and it’s not bouncing back any time soon.

Why would anyone open up a big heavy book, when they can just click and type “West Los Angeles plumber” and find immediate phone numbers? Online, they can also find maps, hours, prices, and even sound clips and informational videos. With high speed Internet now available in most metropolitan areas on cel phones, you can forget about it!

For some businesses, being on page one of the SERPS (Search Engine Results Pages) will be more valuable than having a full page ad in the Yellow Pages ever was. Those thick phone books are going the way of the dinosaur, I guarantee it. Ten years from now, how cost effective will it be to publish, print and distribute these books when nobody uses them or wants to advertise in them anymore?

Your business probably has a website already, and that’s a good start. But are you ahead of the curve in your industry nationally? How about locally? If you’re selling Rolex watches or male potency pills, you’re admittedly behind the 8 ball, but if you’re a local business person, take stock in your future today. Make some time to check out your competition. Go to Google or Yahoo and search for your product or service in your city or state. How many total results come up, and are you or your competition in the SERPS?

Compare those well ranked websites with the largest most expensive listings in the Qwest Dex (or your local) Yellow pages. Are the same companies at the top of the search results that have the largest print ads? I’ll bet they’re not. You might be surprised that some of the biggest industry names in your city are practically nowhere to be found in the search results. Of course this isn’t true for all industries, but it still is for most of them. This opens a huge window of opportunity for the savvy business owner. Diversifying your marketing dollars to include your website will simply have the best ROI (Return On Investment) for your company’s future.

LED lights are a wonderful invention that has changed the way the world is lit. Not only are they long lasting, they have many environmental benefits. LED lights are four times more efficient than a regular incandescent light bulb and last 10 times as long. LED lights also use between 50 and 80 percent less energy than an incandescent bulb.

LED lights are considerably less expensive to operate, however are a little more expensive to purchase. LED home lighting requires only one third of the energy that an incandescent bulb will use. A single 18-watt LED light can replace a 75-watt incandescent and in the lifetime of the LED light, will save 570 kWh of energy. At a basic eight cents per kilowatt rate, that equals $45 dollars in energy bill savings.

By switching to low energy LED home lighting in your home, even one bulb will keep one half of a ton of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere through the lifetime of the bulb instead of using incandescent bulbs. Switching also keeps sulfur oxide and nuclear waste out of the atmosphere as well, leading to a cleaner world and one that will last much longer. By simply switching, our environment could easily revitalize itself without having to deal with the excess carbon dioxide, sulfur oxide and nuclear waste emissions that are currently being released into the atmosphere every day. Even changing one lonely bulb in every home to LED home lighting would make a significant impact on the environment.

If every home in the United States were to switch to LED home lighting, 90 power plants could be retired, a potentially powerful impact to the long-term health of the environment. Being energy efficient and environmentally conscious doesn’t have to disrupt your entire life. The switch is as difficult as changing one light bulb in your home, the results of which would save you money on your electricity bill each month. Just one home lighting fixture, one light bulb can be a positive step forward for your household. Take a look around your home and count how many bulbs you use and consider how often you change them. Say, for example that you change a bulb every two months. Now, consider that by changing them all to LED lighting for your home, you could leave them and not have to replace them for 20 months. The slightly higher upfront costs of LED lights make sense.

LED lighting is finding its way into many niche markets. You can get a LED flashlight that also uses less battery energy, ensuring that the next time the power goes out in your home, you can be confident that your batteries will last. There are also LED lanterns that you can choose from that are ideal for camping or hunting. They last for considerably longer than other lanterns because they use 10 times less energy to run than standard incandescent bulbs and even less energy than a kerosene lantern.

For LED home lighting, there are many options available other than just bulbs. You can find LED light fixtures for your home, indoor and out, that will provide low energy, environmentally-friendly lighting that can save you money on your energy bill.

We all are challenged to do our part to conserve energy. By making small adjustments to the way we live, we can begin to make an impact on our world. One small change we all can make is to switch our home and outdoor light fixtures to LED light options. There are a large number of options for LED home lighting and LED camping and hunting outdoor equipment available on the market, all of which provide the energy efficiency benefits inherent in LED products. The benefits can become apparent very quickly as we begin to see our energy bill costs reduce over a period of a few months.

WordPress software comes ready to embrace search engines. Its features and functions guide a search engine through the posts, pages, and categories to help the search engine crawl your site and gather the information it needs to include your site within its database.

WordPress comes with several built in search optimization tools, including the ability to use .htaccess to create apparently static URLs called permalinks, blogrolling, and pinging. There are also a number of third party plugins and hacks which can be used for search engine optimization (SEO).

However, after tweaking WordPress to your likings, you may find yourself dragging in search engine rankings. WordPress isn’t exactly the most SEO application out of the box, either.

Here are some basic guidelines to ensure your WordPress blog is search engine optimized.

Good, Clean Code

Make sure your site’s code validates. Errors in your code may prevent a search engine from moving through the site successfully.

Content Talks

Search engines can’t “see” a site. They can only “read” a site. Pretty does not talk to a search engine. What “talks” to a search engine are the words, the content, the material in your site that explains, shares, informs, educates, and babbles. Make sure you have quality word content for a search engine to examine and compare with all the parts and pieces to give you a good “score”.

Write Your Content with Searchers in Mind

How do you find information on the Internet? If you are writing something that you want to be “found” on the Internet, think about the words and phrases someone would use to find your information. Use them more than once as you write, but not in every sentence. Learn how search engines scan your content, evaluate it, and categorize it so you can help yourself get in good favor with search engines.

Content First

A search engine enters your site and, for the most part, ignores the styles and CSS. It just plows through the site gathering content and information. Most WordPress Themes are designed with the content as close to the top of the unstyled page as possible, keeping sidebars and footers towards the bottom. Few search engines scan more than the first third of the page before moving on. Make sure your Theme puts the content near the top.

Keywords, Links, and Titles Meet Content

Search engines do not evaluate your site on how pretty it is, but they do evaluate the words and put them through a sifter, giving credit to certain words and combinations of words. Words found within your meta tag keywords listings and within your document are compared to words found within your links and titles. The more that match, the better your “score.”

Content in Links and Images

Your site may not have much text, mostly photographs and links, but you have places in which to add textual content. Search engines look for alt and title in link and image tags. While these have a bigger purpose of making your site more accessible, having good descriptions and words in these attributes helps provide more content for search engines to digest.

It is not how good your site is, it is how good the sites are that link to you. This still holds weight with search engine favoritism. It’s about who links to you. Blogrolls, pingbacks, and trackbacks are all built into WordPress. These help you link to other people, which gives them credit, but it also helps them link to you, connecting the “links.” The number of incoming links your site has that have been recognized by Google can be checked by typing link:www.yoursite.com into Google (other search engines have similar functions).

Other ways to generate incomming links to your site include:

o Add your site’s url to your signature on forum posts on other sites.

o Submit your site to directories (see below).

o Note: Leaving comments on blogs will not help with this, since all modern blogging tools use the attribute. Don’t be a comment spammer.

Good Navigation Links

A search engine crawls through your site, moving from page to page. Good navigational links to the categories, archives, and various pages on your site will invite a search engine to move gracefully from one page to another, following the connecting links and visiting most of your site.

Stay Connected

Though the town of Clackamas is roughly 15 miles from Portland’s city center, the community has been developed to provide many of the urban elements appreciated by those living in the downtown area. Access to retail boutiques and well-known chains have grown significantly over the last year due in part to the expansion of the Clackamas Town Center, a centralized shopping location in Clackamas that includes the Promenade located directly across Sunnyside Road. In November 2007, the center’s developers completed over 25,000 square feet of new retail and dining space created using a modern design suited to the tastes and lifestyles of the Portland metro area. Clackamas area residents have much more variety and options now at their fingertips.

Ease of transportation is one of the greatest benefits of living close to the center of any city. Portland residents have had an award winning TriMet system of busses at their disposal for quite some time. Now, new developments are connecting suburban residents to the entire metro area through the MAX light rail. The Metropolitan Area Express (MAX) which now serves the Hillsboro, Beaverton, downtown, Northeast, and Gresham areas is being expanded to include Clackamas. By September 2009, a new green line will run from the Gateway Transit Center along I-205 to the Clackamas Town Center area. Clackamas residents will have an inexpensive, easy to use train system available to take them to anywhere the other lines go. This development is one of the most anticipated city projects under way today.

While the modern, urban benefits of the Clackamas area are flourishing, the district still boasts the quieter suburban elements that make living away from downtown a perk. The population of the town of Clackamas is estimated at just over 5000 people and trees and fields still dot the area. This means small town neighborhoods are still available, perfect for raising a family or enjoying the retirement years. Many are choosing to move to the Happy Valley area on the north side of Clackamas. This popular location is still slightly rural with larger homes on pieces of land that can offer beautiful views of the valley and Mt. Hood.

Clackamas is also a suburban area perfectly situated close to several of Oregon’s most interesting rural towns. In just 15 to 30 minutes, residents can be in Damascus, Oregon City or Estacada where there are several fun activities for families to enjoy like pumpkin patches and hayrides in the autumn, Christmas tree farms in the winter and petting zoos and fishing ponds in the spring and summer.

The Clackamas public school system can also offer families the same melding of urban and suburban benefits. The area has three elementary schools, one middle school and 1 high school that average a 1:24 teacher to student ratio. These smaller class sizes are what parents hope to have for their children but they can rarely be found in many of the more populated metro areas. Last year, 72.5% of Clackamas High School 10th graders met or exceeded state learning standards, roughly 19% more than the state average. The school also boasts a strong dedication toward getting students to college or the vocation of their choice. This kind of high quality schooling in a smaller town is hard to find in many areas.

The Portland metro area is an incredible place to relocate to. Oregon residents as well as people from out-of-state looking for a melding of all the great urban and suburban advantages Portland has to offer would do well to consider a home in Clackamas.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is very important component to help your site rank well. It is a process that helps your website get found when their potential customers enter specific search terms. Put simply, SEO involves a blend of your site’s Meta Tags, Titles, and internal copy working together to boost your rankings in Google and other search engines.

There is also a supplemental way that your customers can find you. It’s via a valuable tool provided by Google. It is easy to implement… and it’s free. Yet, it’s underutilized. Google Local Business Center will allow you to list your company when it is combined with a city name.

Now, don’t depend on Google Local for search traffic. I want to stress that there is no replacement for a search-engine friendly website with well-written content, meta description tags, keywords, h1 tags, etc. But if you are marketing your business to a local audience, Google Local is an easy-to-set-up potential source of website traffic that complements your other SEO and SEM efforts.

The power of Google Local is that it lists its Local Map-based searches above the rest of the data. This means if you are using this service, your site can get seen before the number one listed site in the Google organic search results. Pretty powerful, eh?

Here are the steps to get your company set up in the Google Local Business Center:

1. Go to Google Local Business Center – you can find this by doing a search in Google.

2. Sign in to Google (or Create a Google Account if you don’t have one).

4. Click “Add New Business.”

5. Enter your business information including name, address, website URL, company description, and the categories that best describe your business.

6. Click “Next.”

7. If it shows your business is already on there, click “claim listing.”

8. If it’s not there, click “add listing.”

9. Then you can enter additional details such as hours or operation, photos, payment options, and videos.

10. Click submit.

11. At this point, you will need to verify you business by phone (don’t bother with the postcard option since it takes weeks to receive it!). Make sure you use a phone number that you can answer because as soon as you click “Finish,” a Google computer will call you to give you a PIN number.

12. Then, enter the Google PIN number in your account to verify your listing.

After you are verified, your info will appear on Google Maps. You can go back to the Local Business Center to edit your information or see how many people went to your listing (there are fantastic tracking graphs). You can even ask customers to go to your Local listing to add reviews – this is a powerful tool to show searchers that people like your company.
